A gathering of Venerable Monks and Lay Scholars contributed in translating Paali Sermons (Nikaya Sangrahaya ) into Sinhala

Dear friends of Dhamma,

I would like to bring to your kind attention of a rare opportunity to listen to a number of venerable monks and outstanding lay scholars who made a noble as well as a notable contribution for and on behalf of the Sri Lankan Buddhists in translating Paali Sermons (Nikaya Sangrahaya ) into Sinhala.

Mr. Weerasiri Heiyanthuduwa, a retired school teacher, living in Colombo, will be offering an arms giving on Saturday, Oct 11, 2008 in tribute of the following most venerable Buddhist monks:

Ven. Itthapana Dhammalankara Thero (Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri – Dhamma Maha Sanga Sabha Anu Nayaka, Poojya Acharya)
Ven. Dr. Bellangvila Vimalarathana (Bellanvila Rajamaha Viharadhikari, Chancellor of Sri Jayawardhanapura University)
Ven. Kirama Wimalajothi Thero (Dehiwala Nadimaala – Bauddha Madyasthaanadhipathi)
Ven. Sarana Thero (Colombo Hunipitiya Gangarama Viharastha Naanissa Parivenadhipathi)

Also in attendance will be :
Professor Oliver Abaynayake.
Mr. Keerthi Naranpannawa

Following the arms giving ceremony, there will be discussions and speeches among/by the above venerable monks and scholars. Mr Weerasiri Heiyanthuduwa would like to give all those who may be interested an opportunity to listen to/take part in this event over the teleconference. All those interested in taking advantage of Mr. Weerasiri Heiyanthuduwa’s kind offer are requested to join our usual conference bridge, at 3:00AM EST, Saturday, Oct 11, 2008 (US time) or 12:30PM, Saturday, Oct 11, 2008 (Sri Lanka Time) for a period of about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Depending on your time zone, it may or may not be quite feasible for you to take part in this event. All the same, the information is sent to everyone so that anyone interested will be able to participate and benefit from this event.
